Cheryn English’s Story

Patient Testimonies | February 20, 2025

Hi, I am Cheryn English from Eureka, California. I am a patient living with high blood pressure, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, a benign breast tumor and have experienced fibroid growth post menopause.

When I was first diagnosed, I couldn’t pay for Rybelsus because of a $500 deductible through my Medicare Part D coverage. Valacyclovir cost me $29 for a three month supply and Losartan and Amlodopine were respectively $4 to $8 a month. Rybelsus had amazing effects on my health, helping me lower my A1C levels from 13 to 6.5 but it was too expensive to continue being on it, forcing me to switch to alternative methods like herbs and teas.

Similarly, my husband had help from Social Security through the Extra Help program, but now that we are a few dollars above the poverty line thanks to the cost of living adjustments, they want him to pay $425 a month for his blood thinner medication because he had a pulmonary embolism and no longer qualify for Extra Help. He needs this specific blood thinner but it is cost prohibitive!

This is why I strongly believe in affordable drug prices. We are all human beings that should have shelter, water, food, and healthcare.
